2. Sa kapatid naming namayapa nitong nakaraang Marso,
si Aldrin (please pray for him),

At the end, komento ng aking kasamahang coordinator:
“Bro, nadalawahan mo kami ah.”
Natutuwa silang may paghanga.

During advent, meron kaming special lesson:
Advent and Christmas.  Kaya ang awiting “Pasko”
naman ang papasok.

O di ba ang saya!

Masaya ang maging katekista.
At kung kayo ay nagnanais magkatekista
o may kamag-anak, kaibigan, o
kakilalang gustong maging katekista,
makipag-ugnayan lamang po sa akin.

O kung may kakilala kayong gustong sumuporta sa
pag-aaral ng sinumang gustong  maging katekista,
just let me know.

The multimedia Superstar’s reputation as Philippine cinema’s greatest thespian is distinguished and buttressed by several factors: (a) Nora is the best drama-comedy-musical star ever to hit the celluloid; (b) Nora remains the only local actor to reap and win international recognition from top-tier film festivals in the world: Cannes (‘81), Berlin (‘83), Moscow (‘84), and Cairo (‘95); and (c) Nora is a critically acclaimed actress on film, television, and theater.

As a stage actress, Nora’s resume may be comparatively short but all her theater outings have met artistic and commercial success. So far, she has done only three plays, namely: Minsa’y Isang Gamu-Gamo in 1991, DH (Domestic Helper) in 1992, and Trojan Women in 1994. The first two were staged by the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and helmed by Socrates “Soxy” Topacio, then PETA’s artistic head. Rody Vera penned the stage adaptation of Gamu-Gamo while renowned screenwriter Ricky Lee created DH. PETA toured both plays in North America, Europe, and Hong Kong. The third play, a Filipino adaptation of Euripides’ immortal tragedy, was produced by Cecille Guidote-Alvarez’s theater company, directed by a Greek national, and staged at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife.

Nora was the first choice of the Tanghalang Pilipino, the resident theater group of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, to star in the 2004 stage musical adaptation of her landmark film—Himala. Sadly, the deal did not push through.

Below are some of the critical plaudits that Nora reaped for Minsa’y Isang Gamu-Gamo, and DH. (Hope fellow Noranians could supply reviews and critiques of her performance in Trojan Women. Likewise, they may add more reviews on Gamu-Gamo and DH.)

Minsa’y Isang Gamu-Gamo

Despite some problems with voice projection, Aunor lives up to one’s high expectations. The depth, fire and intensity are there, and she receives solid support from an excellent ensemble … And the impact of this play is considerable. All in all, a triumph for La Aunor, Philippine theater in general and PETA in particular, now 24 years old and still going strong.
                                                                                                  -Amadis Ma. Guerrero

Theater won’t be the same again after the entrance of Nora Aunor to the scene.
                                                                                                -Billy Balbastro

DH (Domestic Helper)

But in DH, Nora seemed like she was to the theater born, never mind if she was surrounded by big PETA veteran, Carme Sanchez, Liza and Bing Magtoto, Ditchay Roxas … Nora is the bida in all the sub-stories and she manages to shift from one country situation to another. Noemi in Cairo stabbing to death her employers and getting stuck with their carcasses in that prison of a house, Fe running away in Hong Kong and becoming and “AB” (akyat barko), Dolor becoming a mater dolorosa in Barcelona, Nora is also Loida in Italy where the maids’ “fund-raising play” is being mounted. It is Citizen of the World Loida who brings to life the different DH characters and, sadly, at the end, it is she who breaks apart.
-Ma. Ceres Doyo, Philippine Daily Inquirer

More than in Minsan Isang Gamugamo, Nora proves here that she’s easily one of the finest actresses in the land today. Among those currently straddling film and stage, she probably has no peer. This is a tour de force. In the role of four women, Nora takes us through a rollercoaster ride along despair and salvation, glory and shame. The role is physically and emotionally draining, and can be taken on only by someone who’s done strenuous exercises in both…But what maturity Nora has developed! They don’t give awards for plays in this country, so Nora won’t get a FAMAS for this one. But she will have all the awards she needs in the warmth she gives to the lonely, the balm she gives to the wounded, and the hope she gives to the grieving. There is one thing greater than being a superstar, or even a megastar. And that is being, in the truest sense of the word, the people’s star.
-Conrado de Quiros, Philippine Daily Inquirer

There is no question, of course, as to Aunor’s capacity as a film actress. But theater is an entirely different discipline. And here, in only her second theater job, Aunor proved her claim to being the Philippines’ best actress of her time … She was expected to be brilliant in the dramatic highlights. And she was. But a real showstopper was her comic rendition of Fe, the akyat barko of Hong Kong. Aunor never missed a laughline and sent the house in near hysterical guffaws.
                                                                                                            -Joel S., Malaya

And Nora, the girl who came out of Bicol with a golden voice and talent, the superstar now playing a role that has her on stage two hours (without intermission; costume changes done on stage) four nights a week, for six weekends. The woman who is a natural actress of unbelievable presence, and who could not be possibly doing this for fame (which she already has) or money (which theater does not have), but for domestic helpers and Mt. Pinatubo victims, and for love of the theater.
                                                            -Doreen Fernandez, Philippine Daily Inquirer

Miss Aunor’s gestures, expressiveness, body language and delivery of dialogue bespeak a sensitive, accomplished performer. She is an amazingly natural and intuitive actress: she must be, as there is no record of her even going to acting school or whatever. Throughout the two hour play she has anywhere from eight to 10 crying jags, full-blown outbursts, none of your gentle sniffles, and she carries off all of them with utter credibility. No wonder she looked drained by the end of the performance. She also has an unerring sense of the stage, its dimensions, limitations and opportunities, and thus she is able to move about between the other players and the props with total confidence, adding to the powerful impression of control and professionalism that she conveys.
                                                                                     -JV Cruz, Malaya
*Many thanks to the Iconian who collated some of the reviews on DH and posted them on the Nora Aunor Yahoogroup!
