If there’s one word that would aptly describe Nora Aunor, it would probably be “resilient.” Long regarded as the Philippines ’ one and only superstar, Aunor has proven time and again her talent as a singer and an actress, which has earned her numerous awards from various award-giving bodies both in the Philippines and overseas.
Leading a very colorful life, she has hogged the limelight for decades, with her every move and decision a fodder for news-hungry followers as well as detractors.
Surprisingly, despite the many ups and downs during her entire years in show business, Aunor has remained just what she is: simple, down-to-earth, trusting—traits that have forever endeared her to her fans and followers.
And for this she is forever grateful.
“Sila (the fans) ang walang sawang sumusuporta sa akin, kaya hinding-hindi ko sila makakalimutan o matatalikuran,” she said with utmost sincerity. “Dahil sa kanila kaya andito pa ako hanggang ngayon.”
It is for her fans and long-time supporters that she had decided to hold a concert, titled “Sa Iyo Pa Rin,” on October 24, 2008, at the Grand Theater of Los Angeles Trade Tech College in Downtown Los Angeles.
The event, which is arguably the superstar’s first major solo performance in a long time, will coincide with the release of her new album. Still untitled, the new album is being produced by HIFIProductions and crafted by award-winning composer/songwriter husband and wife team Bodjie Dasig and Odette Quesada.
In an interview Ms. Aunor disclosed that she will be singing at least five original songs from the new album—songs which according to her convey inspiration messages and timeless themes.
The concert also becomes significant to the actress because it benefits a worthy cause: that of raising funds for the continuous improvement of the Historic Filipinotown to make it a worthy tourist destination in the heart of Los Angeles .
“Basta makakatulong sa mga kapwa natin Filipino,” Ms. Aunor said, stressing that not only does she promise a good show but a lot of pleasant surprises for her fans and followers.
Together with Dasig and Quesada, a team composed of veteran concert director Jet Montelibano as technical director, Celebrity Chronicle publisher Tony Vizmonte as the concert line producer, and comedian Joseph Gelito, who will provide the entertainment and comic support to the October 24 concert. Front acts include Maaikee and Abby Hall.
Don’t miss the superstar on October 24, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the Grand Theater of the Los Angeles Trade Tech Community College , 400 W. Washington Avenue, Los Angeles , CA 90015 . It is also brought to you by Leo Gilo of Model Mission Foundation, Inc., Lou Razon of Glendale and Katz Entertainment.
