Paolo Santos: Back to Basics

Acoustic music is Paolo Santos. Even though we try to trace the roots on when and how acoustic music became popular and influential in the Philippines, we will definitely find the name of Paolo Santos, the simple man who happens to be a wedding singer before who is now regarded as the country’s “King of Acoustic Music.

Paolo was unstoppable in sharing his music, and many were influenced by him. His popular acoustic rendition of “Moonlight over Paris” was his greatest hit and became an “everyday song” by many, which also made him certified gold and platinum artist. His musical style led him to work with the best musicians in the Philippines and even opened the doors for his collaboration with the international acts like Jason Mraz and Duncan Shiek.

Now, Paolo reigns as the Acoustic King with the release of his new album entitled Back to Basics under Ivory Music. Under Noel Ferrer, his new manager, Paolo has come up with 10-track all-OPM revival album done n Paolo’s sophisticated acoustic style. The tracks include the well-loved hits like “Gaya ng Dati,” “Don’t Say Goodbye,” “Everyday,” “Million Miles Away,” “Yakap,” “Naglalambing,” “Walang Hanngang Paalam,” “Isang Tulog Na Lang” (a duet with Bituin Escalante), and the carrier single, “Photograph.

The album also boasts of very good bonus tracks “Send Me One Line” (originally by Spyro Gyra) and “Moonlight Over Pars (the 2009 version)” which sounds more beautiful than his first rendition.

Paolo Santos’s Back to Basics promises to be one of the best music releases of 2009.
